Anchor Scholarship Foundation
The SURFLANT Scholarship Foundation was chartered in 1980 by the Naval Surface Force U.S. Atlantic Fleet Officers' Wives' Club to provide financial assistance to academically qualified dependents of current and former members of the Naval Surface Forces, Atlantic. In 1981, four $500.00 scholarships were awarded. Through increased donations over the years, the support of the Fleet, and successful fundraising events by various spouse clubs and Chief Petty Officers Associations, the Foundation has grown to 42 scholarships in 2008. These grants recognize deserving and gifted individuals facing the unique challenges of Navy spouses and dependent children.
With its growth and success, the time had come to expand the Foundation to include the Naval Surface Force, Pacific, which did not have a similar scholarship program. On July 1, 2004, the SURFLANT Scholarship Foundation was re-chartered to provide scholarship opportunities for Naval Surface Force dependents of both Atlantic and Pacific Fleets.
The Foundation is now called The Anchor Scholarship Foundation.
