Hello, my DH has orders pending to Fort Benning, GA.  Unfortunately, I know nothing about the area.  Can someone tell me the "good, bad, ugly" about the area???

I'm pregnant and will be having our first child two months after PCSing...nervous.  Any info is appreciated, thanks!

Hello I'm Tanisha me and my family are in Fort Benning not sure your hubbys rank if you will be living on or off post. I live in Indianhead Village and we are in the back. I work from home for a company called Home Front Heroes and I stay pretty busy, when I first got here I knew one one and started doing different things with my children and in the neighborhood. Is Indianhead Village on post? We will be living off post, my husband is an E-6.  I'm trying to find out what neighborhoods are nice off post and which ones we need to stay away from.

Are there a lot of things to do in the area?  We're coming from Fort Sam Houston which is in San Antonio, TX.  It's nice here b/c we have access to everything.  I'm looking forward to being in the south and hope to learn more about the area.

Do you like being stationed at Fort Benning? 

Hello again, we live on post. I do travel off post to go to church and also to go to resturants and shopping. Not sure which areas are good or bad do not see much crime on tv. Fort Benning is between Columbus, Ga and Phoenix, Alabama not sure how far your hubby wants to commute. Maybe google the areas, We just came from Fort Riley another little small town and San Antonio sounds way more busier life than south Georgia is but we are not far from Atlanta if you enjoy the city life. Columbus and Phoenix is quite slow paced and everyone kind of sticks to their self and looks out for their neighbor, so you will do fine in finding a new place, Columbus is full of military families.

If deciding to live off post..... look between exits 6-12. My husband and I just moved to Columbus, and he refused to live anywhere that was farther south than exit 6 just for safety. With that said he lived off of exit 3 before, and while it was convenient for work(I wasn't living with at the time) he was always worried about me driving around when I visited. A lot of people do live in Phenix City, but I have never been there so I won't comment!

We've been here since 2002. We live in the Phenix City area. If you want to be close to shopping ie malls, restaurants and a town environment look in Columbus, definitely stay above exit 6. If you want a nice house close to base out in the country look in Fort Mitchell, AL. I also just had a baby in September at Martin Army. The only problem we had was not being admitted until I was 4 centimeters. I was literally walking around the hospital ground having contractions. Let me know if you have anymore questions. Like I said we've been here for almost 10 years. We've lived on base and off. We actually own our house in Phenix City and looking to rent it out in May when we PCS to Mississippi. It's close to the back gate; quick access to Airborne School, Main Post.
