Well, I used to live at Ghent Village in downtown Norfolk and LOVED it. I'm not sure your price range, we payed more than BAH just for rent but it was totally worth it (and at the time we didn't really have any outside bills other than amenities). It was approx 20min straight down hampton blvd (the street NOB is off of) to base.

I will say, stay away from The Oaks and Baker Crossing. I had terrible experiences with both of those places. And actually, stay away from anywhere that is owned by Great Atlantic (the oaks was by this company). They are a horrible company and care nothing about their residents and will screw you over any way they can once you sign that lease. Not a single person that I met while living there were happy to live there. Just a heads up.

Not sure if you are still looking but we live in Hampton in a townhouse complex and like it. It is a good price and about 20 minutes from base. If you would like more information let me know.

Hello Ashley,

I dont know exactly what you are looking for in a place to live but I am living in Norfolk and my DH is a recruiter at the main naval base in Norfolk. He enjoys his 10-15 minute commute and we really love our place. It is called Crown Point Townhomes. We have a three bedroom and the floor plan is very spacious. It is a very mixed military community with quick acces to all of the highways. It is very close to tons of shopping centers and malls but it is a very peaceful community that makes you feel like shopping is miles away although its right around the corner. You are minutes away from VA beach and Chesapeake. I myself work in Chesapeake and the commute is quick. We live in an upgraded townhome that has all the trimmings. A great place to grow into. They have private security who walk the grounds daily and nightly. Very child friendly neighborhood. Pet friendly. Im pretty sure that most families in the community are active duty.
