Well, my husband and I are doing our first PCS move to Bliss come mid-April. I just wanted to get some information on how to get involved with the wives and all that jazz. The only people I know coming here are the guys my husband went to school with. I would like to start making some new friends so I don't feel so alone when we get here. Thanks! |

Welcome to Fort Bliss! I have only been here about 3 weeks and we only knew one other couple here from my husbands previous training. Its been a little difficult for me personally to get involved because my husbands brigade has been deployed and due to return soon so most of the wives are just waiting on there return. But I hope to meet people soon! |

Well, we like to go to movies and love playing games. We really don't do the "party" or "going to bars" scene. I look forward to getting down here. We are here till tomorrow. We came down to find a place to live and put some feelers out on a job for me. |

We will have to get together sometime. BBQ sounds good. We finally have a patio that we can actually do some grilling on and not rely on our forman. |

Hi Diane, El Paso is growing by leaps and bounds! Everyone has a favorite area but try and find out which part of Bliss your SO will be working out of so you can find a place closer to there. There is as much as 30 mins (more in heavy traffic construction) between some of the gates and with the influx of people it will probably get somewhat worse before it gets better. Last I heard the wait for on post housing was 10-14 months but that also depends on your family size and SO's rank. Some people get housing the same day and some have to wait months. Hope that helps! PM me if you need more info |

We are in the North east. I love the neighborhood, but i hate the drive! Dh's orders changed after he checked in so instead of being near the cassidy gate, he works right by the remagen gate, a difference of 10 minutes and 5 miles of driving each way, had we known we would have found something on the east side of town instead of up here, but i do love where we live. |

There is something I want to point out here: We chose to buy a house on the west side. We had been stationed here before and knew the area very well. My husband has a commute of 30 minutes to PT on Biggs. The drive home might be 45, if there is a traffic jam. He does not make it home after PT or for lunch, but he says the quality of living warrants the commute. This is a very personal choice we made; we love the west side! My daughter loves her school much more than Chapin. She went there for about a month while we were still in lodging. It is all about the choices you make, what is important to you. For me there is nothing that I have to buy on base that I can't get anywhere else. All I am saying; the proximity to base does not mean the quality of living is better. Just my point of view. |

very true daniela, for us we needed to be closer because DH still dosent have his drivers licence, (fingers crossed hes taking the test next week) but since i drive him to work and home at night, we wanted to be closer. For us that makes sence but in your case id probabily love the west side also, we have a friend that rents over there and the neighborhood is beautiful! |

We got an apartment on the west side and we really like it. He has a little bit more of a commute but it is worth it. |

Yes, Jessi, you are very patient and I hope he passes too! In our case, DH's battalion was restricted to how far they could live from base both mileage and average commute wise. DH even had to turn in Mapquest directions stating how long the commute was! That's the only reason I usually bring that up! Keri, what are your initial thoughts of El Paso? |

It is definitely different than what I am used to. I am trying to stay positive and productive about being here. I just need to find a job which should be pretty interesting since I don't speak spanish. The classes I took in high school definitely didn't stick to my brain. I will have to get used to the sun. I am so fair skinned that I burn really easily. What else? I like post. I just really want to get involved. I am going to call ACS about the job thing they do as well as their little welcome to Fort Bliss/El Paso. It will be an interesting life here to say the least. |
