Hi all,

I wanted to see if I could spark a discussion about the job market in the Fort Bliss area.   It seems like hiring has stalled in the current economy.  It's frustrating because I see so much hiring going on at Ft Sam and back east.  I used to see a lot of jobs advertised in the Bliss area that were a good fit for me (geospatial/imagery/intel analyst) but as the PCS came near and I was ready to start applying the market tanked.  I just got back from 10 months in Iraq (as a civilian), got to spend a month on leave with my hubby, and now I'm heading back to our last duty station where I still have a very well paying job.

Does anyone have any insight into the local hiring market for GS and government contractor jobs?  Are they just not hiring, waiting to see how the budget goes before hiring, or area people being laid off?  Anyone work for Border Patrol?  I've applied for a couple of positions there and would like to know more about culture there.  Please feel free to respond with any other comments, questions, or rants/raves about the job market here.
