I'm looking for some good gift suggestions for my boyfriend who's assuming a new role this spring. It's a big step in his career and I want to mark the occasion with a special gift befitting such a big opportunity.

He's an 0-6 and seems to have already received practially everything I can think of as a good gift earlier in his career -- watches, ribbon boxes, cuff links, plaques, photo frames, engraved everything (flasks, humidors, pens), specialty items related to his hobbies, etc.

I thought of a few practical, but not terribly exciting gifts, like a leather laptop bag to replace his current worn one, as he'll be doing much more travel with his new position. I'm sure he'd like it, but it doesn't exactly have a sentimental aspect to it.

Any ideas for something unique and special?

Thanks in advance!

I think the laptop bag is a great idea! It might not have much sentiment but usually guys aren't to concerned with sentimental gifts.

What about a military coin? You can get them engraved to say whatever you would like?

If he has a display with the coins I'd suggest a custom coin from you. And like *usmc*eodwife said, guys aren't super sentimental so the laptop bag would be a good idea too!

I like the laptop bag idea!! I know DH has been eye-ing some new luggage, very smart / manly looking duffels and the like. Would he like anything like that for his traveling? I'm trying to think of a way to make it sentimental. With DH, he and I started dating in the same month that he enlisted (same month, not the same year. not even close!). So instead of how many years we had been together, we'd say x number of Novembers (example). So for his promotion one year, I had the watch engraved with "10 Novembers". It was just a simple way to combine his promotion + service, but tie in our relationship somehow. Is there anything like that you could do?

Does he have a nice garment bag? That can make such a difference when you're traveling with a dress uniform. You could get it monogrammed or make a custom colorful luggage tag.

Thanks, ladies. I may wind up doing a practical gift and a more sentimental one, like a coin or similar. Lucky guy, lol!
