Just moved here to Great Lakes in June. Looking to find something to do but I dont know where to start. I don't know if this website will bring me any luck but it doesn't hurt to try. I'm 23 and I have been married for a year now and this is my first military move. I'm from San Diego, Ca and just looking for some friends. *tear* My husband has taken me out of my element and I feel alone because I know noone(friends). I could use any type of advice to get me going.

Well I just moved away from GL and moved to San Diego and I truely feel for you that place sucks! and its not even winter then it really sucks. As for things to do not much if you craft there is a craft hour at the library once a month on base. The only way I made friends there was by introducing myself to neighbors. Be carful tho there are some crazy ladies out there that will try to be your friend just to cause trouble and being a small base its not hard to run into them. I tried to keep myself busy by focusing on my hobbies. They do have a newsletter that goes out telling fun stuff to do on base ....what rate is your hubby ? Mine was an ET if your is the good thing is you wont be there long we were only there for 10 months if you have any questions shoot me a PM!

Nakkita, We just moved to the area as well. Although on the opposite end of spectrum. My spouse retired and accepted a position in Chicago. With any move I would advise you to attend all activities invited to ( when the host is reasonably sane of course) or have the option to attend. Sometimes you may not befriend the host, but certainly another guest. You may not be crafty but by attending a craft group you could meet friends.....who lovingly knit you ugly scarves
I dont know what is available there but group exersize classes also worked ( ugh) as well as telling your spouse he is hosting a cookout/poker night etc. with spouses in attendance.
Good luck and remember you can still randomly take online courses at California colleges for in state rates when you feel destitute.
