Luftannsa youre allowed 2 bags per person. And because your'e military they will let you get up to 70 pounds. Our bags were heavy and we had to shift some things and even got a handle travel box(free) from Luftannsa, bc we were under the limit of bags per person. We did pay for our dog $200.00

Nicole,
Thanks for sharing all the info! We are leaving from Texas too. What's the weather like? Still soo hot here and we guess we'll have to be in jeans and a light jacket when we get there.
I called Lufthansa again about our baggage and was told the 1 piece at 50 lbs. but then when I mentioned our orders say otherwise, they say to go by what is on our orders. (Phew!)

Thanks Nicole of the information, glad you didn't have any issue leaving from HOOD! I'm getting the run around from them, and bad attitude since I had a bunch of questions for them, but oh well I guess! Yea let us know how the weather is like and such!

Thanks for responding everyone, I am still waiting for a response from housing in the meantime I will be patient, I can imagine what the wait time will be for a 5 bedroom since its still busy for a 3 bedroom, well I will keep packing and de cluttering. Nicole how has it been in Wiesbaden for you? how is the weather going, I went school supply shopping here in the states already and now I am getting ready to get winter clothes due to us coming from texas also. Anyway looking forward to hearing from you all.

Lyn,
When we first got here it rained every day. Currently, it gets up to like 78 the highest and cooler at night low 60's. I brought a jeans jacket, bc I knew the weather would be different.

Kim, I'm sorry you are getting the run around. That sure can be frustrating. I'm not sure why some ppl have orders that say concurrent travel and some say deferement. We have some husbands here at the hotel waiting on their families to get here. And, then families that are here with their husbands. My dh tells me that you have to put in for concurrent travel. Then I've heard the receiving command does the paper work. I know as a child when my dad got orders we always traveled as a family. All three times we went to Germany.

Kimberely,

Being in the hotel with two teenagers all day makes me want to run away. I'm joking. Seriously, I am ready for school to start Aug 30th. lol We went on train trips to visit friends that live here and have walked around the city of Wiesbaden. Germans walk everywhere, something my kids were not used to at all. The city is nice and a little different from the US. Ppl in general here at the hotel are very nice and helpful. But living out of a suit case for over 30 days is getting to me. lol No word on housing. Because of the renevations, we have to wait, but we are next on the list for a 3 bdr. On Post and there are 3 there is construction everywhere. Ppl tell me they have been working on the renevations for yrs. I dont know. I know the new hotel was supposed to been done and bc of water damage and electricty problems they probably wont move into it until next yr.

Nicole, Thank you for sharing your experiences so far. Sounds like you will be getting housing soon. How is the hotel I thought the new hotel was done : ( Do the rooms have a kitchen? I heard there was mega construction going on there. I am not on facebook but, hope to meet you ladies when we get there.

We're going to PCS to Wiesbaden in December. My husband will be working in Darmstadt, so we're really hoping to get approved for off post housing. I did my college internship in Hamburg and my husband did his in Dresden. He was also a foreign exchange student in Germany when he was in high school. We're so psyched to get back over there, but really don't want to live in the base housing. I'm a photographer, and I don't know how we could fit my equipment and everything for our kids in the tight quarters on base.

Is it really hard to get an exception?

We arrived in Wiesbaden last week and have been in lodging since. We got word that we will have housing next week so I'm excited about that. The weather here is in the 60's. It's been raining lately so I sure wish I packed my umbrella, boots and rain coat instead of keeping it with the household goods. We've been able to keep busy with things to do and see within walking distance. The PX and commissary are within walking distance and well stocked.

TJO, the new hotel is not done. I was reading that it may still be months before it is completed due to misc. damages. The rooms here in lodging do not have a kitchen. There is a small (dorm-style) refrigerator and a small microwave. That has definitely been a challenge. There is a great Italian restaurant downstairs and lots of eating places nearby. The PX food court has many choices (just like the food courts at the PX in the US). The hotel offers free breakfast in the morning but it is nothing fancy, just your basic toast, muffins, coffee and juice with a couple other extras (but not much).
Any other questions, I will try to answer as best I can.

There is free wireless internet connection but the signal is not very strong. I find that it is much better during the day (probably while people are at work) than at night.
Have a safe trip!

We have ?'s about the housing. Do all quarters have washers and dryers in them or is it a shared laundry room in the basement? We were in Ansbach from '96-'00 and are on our way back across the pond. Thanks.

We will be going to Germany in April. I have a few questions if anyone can help answer them for me. Does the family go with the spouse when he does or does he go 1st. Wondering as I'm in school and trying to figure out if I can stay and finish my spring semester here. Does anyone know where the CTC campus is located, I'm working on Early Childhood Edu. Also I have read someplace not to bring our washer and dryer as the army provides them for us. Is this true and is it only if you live on post housing or off post as well? How are the German schools? Our son is 4 turns 5 in March and I would like him to be in German kindergarten. Also with the living I would love to live in the culture is it hard to get approval to stay off post? His orders right now says Frankfurt is where we are going. Not sure if everyone's says there when they 1st find out they are going there or not. Look forward to learning more about the moving process.
