In a few months I will be moving to Pensacola from Az and I was wondering the best way to transport my two dogs. They are my babies and I've travelled to California with them but going across country is another thing. What is the best way to go, plane or driving?

We drive with our 2 dogs. But that's because we also have to get our 2 cars to wherever we are going. We don't have our cars transported because who knows how long it will take to get them. lol You could certainly fly with them. Remember if they are big they have to be crated and go in with the luggage. Personally that would scare me. One of my dogs has anxiety so that wouldn't work well with him.

It really just depends on your dogs. We flew Moose (our 140 pound yellow lab) up to Washington, because he doesn't do well in the car at all, and the airlines have very, very, VERY strict requirements for how their staff takes care of the animals. It's heated/air conditioned under the plane, and pressurized (obviously). They only take them if they're completely healthy and have food and water in their crates. We'll probably drive both of our's down to Altus, OK for DH's training in a few months, which will be hard on Moose, but easier on Chewie (our other yellow lab we adopted here).

Thank you for your replies. I have two miniature Dachshunds who have separation anxiety so I'm leaning toward driving with them, because they are good in the car, but it's so long of a trip I feel bad for them.

aww i love dachshunds! so cute. i know this is different, but i have driven with my cat across the country a few times and she is a pro now. and that means she sleeps the entire time lol. if your pups are good in the car i would say drive them. because if you fly them you haev to pay for it, the military doest pay for that. and it will only be a day or two of driving, so the pups will be fine.

We will be driving from NC to CA with our two dogs once we move. Our dogs do well in the car. If your dogs do well in the car too, I would say drive.
