ok so my husband got his official orders and there is no leave on there for him to move. in all of the e mails back and forth with the detailer the detailer said he was going to give him a week or so between all of his schools to move us but then the orders came and literally has NO DAYS. He gets home from deployment, next day or so has to report at officer school, day he graduates from officer school has to check in at at different school, leave that school next day has to check in at a different school, next day has to be at a meeting, and then the next day reports. like literally NO DAYS. We are even worried he isnt going to make it to officer school in time because they are flying him back special from his deployment.
Is this normal? My husband (in 15 years) has always got leave for house hunting and moving and this time he gets nothing. I e-mailed the detailer and he said my husband can ask for leave after he reports to his new command.
Has this happened to anyone else?

J has never had leave days added to his PCS orders. He's always had to take the leave before we PCS or after he reports in to the new duty station. The only "days" he has is his travel days. But you're saying that your husband doesn't even have his travel days? |

Only once have we been authorized leave en route and that was when we moved cross country. The other 5 moves, it was strictly travel. |

yeah there are 0 travel days. like he gets home from deployment (hopefully) and the next day, possibly the day after that if he gets here on a late night flight and he has to be at school. and there are 0 days between all of this schools for travel. whatever it is it is not enough time for him to even drive his car up to where we are living. I asked the detailer and he said he could take leave before he has to go to school to drive up there. I was like "HE IS DEPLOYED!!!!" he was like "oh yeah, guess he will have to take it after he reports". I hope my some miracle they figure out to get him off the sub earlier and he is able to come home earlier. I honestly have no idea how they are getting him off the sub because the rest of the crew is out for a long time after he leaves. I hope he makes it to school in time |

The military will give him the report days with a day or so inbetween for him to make it to his destination. Once he is at his station, he can file for house hunting leave and such with his command. Most places allow this time but it's not put in the orders by the military. |

good to know. I guess he will just be asking after he gets there. jimmy has always had leave built into his orders and the detailer said he was going to do that again so this was just a shock for both of us. |

with going to schools it is different- since his reporting will be dependant on the start of the schools. in this case it will be very hard for them to give him leave from the schools. your DH needs to verify the start/stop dates for the schools to see if there is any room for leave. as for PCSing- they can tell you that you can do the move yourself- that he needs to be at the school for class- they will not care that you have kids, pets, 2 cars and 2 different HHG's to move. ( I have BTDT and made a move from Miami fl to Kodiak AK alone with a kid, and 2 cats )

You can get leave before you PCS if you you want it before your report date. His 'Report No Later Than' date might be cutting it close this time, so maybe there was no room for error. I know in the UK you don't really get 'house hunting' leave. But DH's office pretty much gave him three weeks worth of slack if he couldn't be at work for any inprocessing reasons. But yes, like Dawn said, schools are more prompt and pre-determined. |

DH didn't get any days to move us to OCS and then on to the next school. He had to report to the next school the same day he graduated from OCS. So that left me to do the move and set it up alone. Annoying? yes! Also isn't house hunting leave not guaranteed? Isn't it up to the command you're currently at? |

Dh has never been able to take house hunting leave. Not that the CO's were being mean, the timing just never worked out. Since he's going to schools which have specific start dates there isn't any leeway for leave. Dh has had schools in-between commands many times over the years, and not once has he had a specific report date to his PDS. Looking at his last set of orders it says report to X school by Jan 2 for appropriately six weeks. Upon completion report to the USS XZY in March 09. His school finished in mid Feb and didn't report till mid March. I've never seen a set of orders to a PDS that said report on X date, they have always said the month. Depending on the job he's going to he may know he has to be there be a certain date of course. I would have him contact the gaining command and see if he can move the report date a couple weeks later. |

Our current orders to the fleet have a certain date we have to be there by. He's going to report early though. |
