Can I get opnions of everyone who has one of these, or any electronic book device. What do you think? pros cons....I was at borders the other day and the girl was trying to convince me to buy theirs because the kindle has limited availability, in that you can only get free books on amazon and buy books on amazon...etc...what do you think? I'd like something with wi-fi and theirs do not have it.

I got one for Christmas but returned it when I saw how expensive the books were to download. You can get some free books online but those are mostly the classics. Any new books I wanted (I looked up the True Blood Books) were around $10 each! That was too expensive for me as I get through books so fast, so far it would have cost me $100 just to get the true blood series and I can buy real copies for cheaper than that. |

I love having an ereader. As for the how to get books on it, the sony ereader library works like itunes. Being overseas I can still put books on it, which was important. I received it as a gift from my DH for Christmas a few years back, so I didn't pick what I got, not that they all even existed back then. I still use paperback swap, buy books, use the library, but when I go on vacation or am traveling the ereader is wonderful. I take one small thing and don't have to worry about how many books I might read. |

I have a Kindle and I absolutly LOVE it! I have tons of books on it, close to 200. What I love about it is that amazon keeps an account with all of your books so when your done reading a book on your kindle and you don't want it on there anymore you can delete it but it's still on the amazon account. I haven't paid more than 7 dollars for a book so far and that is including some of the newer books. I don't know about the new generation Kindle but on mine you also get internet access when you have the whispernet on. Also after you buy a couple books on the online store, it makes a list of book that it "recommends" for you according to the books that you have recently bought. You can get samples of books before you buy them, sometimes it's only a couple of pages and others can be up to 2 or 3 chapters. You can have a "wish list" so if you find a book you may want to read in the future but not now you put it in there and save it for later. |

I bought a nook and he's addicted to it! It has a huge memory and you can add an additional mem chip. Books range from free (500,000 titles) to $9.99 for new releases. They do have wi-fi on it. You can "lend" books to another nook for 2 wks. You can also put pictures and music on it, which DH loves. He was also able to put all his flight manuals on there (PDF files). I have to say I was impressed at how much the page looks like a real book. I went back and forth between the Kindle and nook, and am so happy I went with the nook. On the Barnes and Noble website, there is a comparsion chart- http://www.barnesandnoble.com/nook/compare/?cds2Pid=30195 |

We both got nooks and we love them! They come out with free books all the time, it even comes with free books, and you can get a lot of books for fairly cheap. It's so easy to carry around too. The good thing is that if you get a couple nooks as a family, you both can have the same books on them. My husband and I can read the same book even when he's in Iraq. We went around trying to see which one was the best and settled on the book, for accessibility and style. |

I like the kindle just fine - it's quick to download books (I downloaded two after the "all electronic devices off please" announcement on the plane and then shut it down before the flight attendant even got near me...LOL) -- I like the convenience of taking it to the beach, on a plane (less weight to carry in the carryon which is already heavy) and on and on. I don't spend more than $9 on a book; usually less. Tons of free downloads, just google them. I'm just upset that they're so much cheaper now than 6mos ago when we bought ours!! |

I use both the Nook and the Kindle apps on my Android phone. The apps themselves are free, you just pay for the books. Most of the time there is a discount on books that you download, since there is no printing costs associated. I know some people who think the phone apps are too small, but I've never felt that way. Most of the time I've decreased the font size. I love it though. It is so much more convenient to carry around with me, and I always have a book for unexpected waiting times. |

I have been debating which type of electronic book thingy I wanted to get as well. My question is about the wifi. I saw that the newer Kindles have wifi, but there is another one that only has 3G. What is the difference? Like with wifi can you go web surfing, or is it just for better coverage to download? You dont have to be online while reading the book do you? |

Wifi capable means you can access the market and the web using any wireless internet connection, 3G uses the cell phone towers, basically. No, once you DL your books, they are saved on your device and you can access them without using the 3G or WiFi. |

We really like the Nook. Bought it for DH on his deployment (buy the extended warranty!). Books are 4.99 - 9.99, but it's still cheaper than sending over enough books to keep him happy! I'd buy myself one, but I think it's too expensive for me when I can go to the library. Sidenote - DH sat on his on the flight over. Only took about 2 weeks though to replace! |

I'm thinking of getting each of the kids one for Christmas. So far, this is what I have heard with some people I have talked to that have the following: Kindle: Don't like that once the memory is full, you can't replace it. It's like and portable. Online capability. Lots of titles to choose from. If I have to do it again, I'd get a Nook Nook: Light and portable. I was able to download my textbooks. I can "borrow" books from B&N without having to buy it as long as you're in B&N. Can replace the memory once it's full. Lots of free titles to choose from. I haven't met anyone that has the Border's version so I'm still researching. I think between the two I would go for the Nook but, we'll see how the Border's version compares. |

My Nook came with a bunch of free books. Every Friday they give out a new free book and there is a listing with free books on the B&N site, as well as the online store through the Nook. |

My husband got a Kindle and loves it. You can get plenty of free books as well. If by chance you fill up you can move books back to Amazon, but they are still in your list. At any time you could move it back to your Kindle to read again at no extra charge. He also used his Kindle to send a few emails out while in Guam. There were internet issues, but he could still use his Kindle to access his gmail and such. If we get another one for me we will probably go with a Nook. Not because we feel it is better than the Kindle, but just to give us the options. Maybe B&N will have a free book Amazon doesn't or vice versa. |

DH got me a Sony Reader for Christmas and I LOVE it! What I like about the Reader is that you can get books from all sources. You're not limited to only buying from Amazon or BN. I've had it for 10mos now and we have yet to "buy" an Ebook. There's lots of websites with free Ebooks. The best thing about the reader is that you can upload all formats like PDF and .txt so you don't have to worry about what format the book is in. I'm really happy with it. |

Project Gutenberg has public domain books for free on the site. They have a lot of classics, epics, sagas, etc. Great stuff. You just need to make sure to download the correct format for whatever device you have (they explain what format goes to what device). |

Project Gutenberg is where DH had found most of my Ebooks! If he can't find it on there he'll just type it on a search engine and try looking that way. I love free stuff lol |

It has saved me a ton of money during my goal to read as many national epics as I can. |
