Hello everyone! My hubby and I will be moving to SD from P-cola around the 1st week of March, I have a couple of questions:

1) Which places other than military housing (I looked at lincoln) will be good to live around? We have no pets or kids yet so are very flexible BUT safety for me is A+! I would like not to spend more than 1400-1500 max. I've look at apartmens.com and rent.com too but everything is either way too small and overpriced or too far. How many miles from Coronado is reasonable to commute? I've looked into no more than 15 miles away is that ok? Also, I'll be prob working (see below) so I want both of us to have a reasonable time to work

PS: here in Pensacola 10 miles takes you 25 mins to get there. How is SD? is traffic bad?

2) Is there any nurses here? I'm an RN here in FL (still tryng to get my license since CA has given me a million of issues...hopefully will be ready in 2 weeks they said) and would like to know where is the best place to find a job. Is it hard at all? I've heard the market is exhausted in SD for us :S

3) I'll love to meet some new ladies! Here unfortunately it's been very hard and there's not much to do either so it doesnt help at all.

Well I appreciate all of your help and hope to meet you all soon!

There are a lot of SD area ladies (we were at Pendleton till last summer.) In order to get to Coronado you have to cross a bridge, which can get backed up at times. If you have no kids/pets I'd definitely see if living out in town would give you a "better bang for your buck."

Welcome (soon) to SD. I'm a grunt wife so cant help you on the Navy end. I can however tell you that we have get-togethers at least monthly, so hopefully your schedule will line up with one soon

Welcome! We're CP people, but love going down to San Diego. I'm not sure on the actual housing in SD, but I know overall for SD county, 1400-1500 for a good apartment is not overpriced. Unfortunately

Do you happen to know what the BAH will be once you move out to SD?

Awesome! Great tO know that there is get togethers as well as plenty of things to do! We are supposed to get $1900 for BAH but we want to cover rent + utilities and parking with it and if possible keep some for food

Unfortunately SD is an expensive place to live. The bridge to Coronado does get backed up for various reasons and it takes a lot longer to get across. my hubby is currently stationed on Coronado but we live up in Poway so hubby has about a 25 mile commute. It usually takes him about 40 min to get to or from work if there is no traffic. Living on Coronado is always an option, but it is pricy. There are some nice places in Imperial Beach which is south of Coronado and is usually an easier commute since you don't have to deal with the bridge.

The bridge is a pain in the butt, but not impossible. One thing you'll need to learn about out here is to give yourself plenty of time. I joke with my husband that people are so high strung (crazy drivers etc) out here because they have to wake up extra early to get to where they are going on time...lol.

We lived in IB (imperial beach) in a one bedroom/one bath 575 sq ft apartment when we first got married and lived out here. Not a bad place per say, but I'd live in housing before I did that again. We currently live in La Mesa. My husband leaves here at 6:30 to drop out daughter off at daycare, and gets to 32nd street by 7am. North Island is about an extra 20 minutes away from there, plus add traffic.

Reason number 1 why we don't like SD...takes forever to get anywhere. Good Luck!
