It IS the norm for MM to get storage fee's paid during a deployment. Just because most who are married don't utilize it doesn't mean they don't have access to it. Its not a command thing, its a deployment thing.

Under additional instructions on dh's last 3 deployments. #7 Non-temporary storage of HHG is authorized. So the gov't will pay for storage in other situations than a PCS move. I think that you need to be clear and quit giving out false info. You are going to confuse people and lead them down the wrong path. I'm pretty sure almost everyone else in the military has the same instructions. The military understands that many families move to be closer to families during deployment and other situations. Sometimes you cannot bring all your stuff with you.

Many of us have been around the military for a long time. We've gone through many moves and deployments. I don't think spouses are coming here for you to prove things to them through the rule book. They are coming here looking for advice and experience from other spouses. Yes there are rules. But there are plenty of exceptions to the rules. There are ways to get around things in the military as well when it comes to moving. I get aggravated when there are people on here giving answers that are not completely true and confuse people. I know for a fact that some of the other women who have responded have been moved around several times. They are sharing their experiences what was paid for by the gov't. There is no reason to try to "prove" that they are wrong by pulling out the book. Give me a break!

the gov't will pay for your HHG in storage. Especially if the MM deploys. You can move everything into storage and they will reimburse you for this.

Dang! I wish I'd known about three years ago. I had no clue, but I'm glad I do now. I'll definitely be keeping this in the back of my mind to use when someone is asking about their options. We've only given our house up once, and I paid for the storage during the deployment... if only I'd known.

Look... Rigger is not going to lie and say that her HHGs were stored during her husband's three deployments. Unless you wrote the darn JFTR or you read the whole dang thing and have a photographic memory you are not going to know every single thing about a PCS. Now the OP asked a simple question, one regarding whether or not she would be reimbursed. From my reading of the responses you did not respond to her... you responded to Military's first response. I'm going to be completely honest here and tell you that your posts have completely confused the H out of me... and I've been married to my husband for 10 and we've moved 11 times. If I am confused by your answers, imagine how a new wife is feeling at the moment.

If I remember right single sailors attached to a ship but authorized to live out in town kept the BAH on deployment which helped cover storage. We have never used storage during a deployment because we have not needed it.

Now storage for a move. In the Navy, at least, the government will store HHG for 90 days with a move however the last time we moved we did not get a house right away so we had to request in writing additional time. The one person that we dealt with was a grouchy old guy and said it wouldn't be done but the place storing it approved it for us.

I think this thread goes to show that while we all have different experiences and it is good to gather information so that you are informed you really won't know that they will do until you ask. I do believe that it is good to know what has happened for other people so that you can ask.

I think this thread is getting out of hand and if tempers don't simmer down, it will be locked and possibly deleted; which in the end will help no one.
