Thanks! Just pretty much any advice. I mean we are leaving Great Lakes come next year sometime and well one thing is moving wise, have them move and pack our things or do it ourselves.

IMHO having movers is one of the best things about moving. For us it takes a lot of stress out of the situation and frankly I've had more stuff broken in moves I've done myself than I ever have when we had movers. I know some ladies here have done it themselves and it is possible to make some money when you do it that way. It all depends on if you want to put in the work or not. If you have any other questions please ask away! We just did our 2nd move in 7 months so it's all fresh in my brain right now.

I love hearing about everyone's own experiences. I keep hearing that it is best to have the movers. I don't know I don't really like packing things myself either lol. What we've been talking about is either doing it ourselves because we both have our parents, siblings and other family members nearby or to have movers do it.

My DH and and I are having he movers move us this week. I was stressed out just talking about moving our stuff without him here to help. It's our first move so it really was a weight lifted! Good Luck!

I had a really good moving experience too! After I set it up on move.mil, the local company called me up and did a telephone assesment to see how many days that we would need them to come....luckily I dont have much stuff so they packed and moved all our stuff in one day. I got my express shipment right on time, but the big one ended up coming like 2 weeks early!

How exactly do they move it? I mean do they drive a truck and we follow behind or what? Lol I dont know how these things work.

Im not sure how they do it stateside, but I would imagine they would just take it to your new place. You dont have to follow them or anything. You do set up a date when you want it delivered though.

If you have movers it generally goes something like this:

Once you have orders you fill out paperwork with the transportation office (or on the move.mil site) and request the moving dates that work best with your schedule (when you need to be out of your current house etc). Then the military takes the dates and gives them to a civilian moving company who will call you and set up a walk through to see how much stuff you have so they know what size truck how many boxes to bring etc. at this point you generally finalize your dates and let them know if you have an address at the new place or not (it's ok if you don't!). When they come it can be 1 or more days of them packing our stuff and then loading it on the truck. Often your stuff will be bunched with other people's stuff on a truck to fill it up. Once the truck is packed you wave goodbye and won't see your stuff till it is delivered at the new duty station. They will call you when the truck arrives and if you have a place you schedule a delivery. If not they put your stuff in storage until you call with the new address.
