Tutors Available 24/7

Both the Army and Marine Corps have contracted with Tutor.com Learning Suite to provide military learners of all ages with additional educational support. The on-line tutoring program offers high quality, vetted subject matter resources, and educational support for military families. 

The Marine Corps program is provided by Marine Corps Community Services and is available at http://www.usmc-mccs.org/ by clicking the link that says "Live Homework Help". USMC Civilians, Marines, and their dependents are eligible. The program is open and tutors are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Because it is web based, users have access worldwide from any internet-connected PC or MAC computer.

The Army program is provided by Child, Youth & School Services and is available at www.myarmyonesource.com/cyss_tutor.  Active, Wounded, Reserve Component, National Guard, Army civilians, Survivors and their dependents are eligible. This program is also worldwide, 24/7, and cross-platform, as above.

Scholarship Program Rewards more than 600 Military Children

The 2009 Scholarships for Military Children Program has awarded 625 scholarships for $1,500 each to children across the United States and overseas.  The scholarship program is administered by Fisher House Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides assistance to service members and their families.  Funding for the scholarships comes from commissary vendors, manufacturers, brokers, suppliers and the general public.  Every dollar donated to the program goes directly to funding the scholarships.  For further information about the program, please log on to: http://www.militaryscholar.org.  For more information about the Defense Commissary Agency, please click on the following link: http://www.commissaries.com

Many Colleges Sign on to GI Bill “Yellow Ribbon” Program

More than 500 private colleges signed on to the “Yellow Ribbon” agreements under the new Post 9/11 GI Bill benefit, making these higher priced schools more affordable to veterans who qualify for admission. Many big name schools nationwide have decided not to enter Yellow Ribbon deals or offer special discounts to veterans, at least for the 2009-2010 school year, citing the complexity of Yellow Ribbon and GI Bill rules, administrative challenges faced by the school trying to keep pace with VA’s “fast tracking” plan and the current economic crisis, as reasons for not signing.
