The Surface Officers’ Spouses of Norfolk are busy making plans for the first annual Anchor Run which will be held on April 3rd, 2011. This run/walk will take the place of our annual Live and Silent Auction. We have appreciated the help of generous sponsors for our past events. The support of our sponsors is what helps us continue to direct a high caliber event that has become standard in the Hampton Roads area. Your potential sponsorship of this event will ensure that the Anchor Run is as successful as the Auctions of the past and that many Navy families across the country will have financial help with college payments.
What would it cost to have your business’s name on over 500 moving billboards? Because that is what your sponsorship of the Surface Officers’ Spouses Anchor Run will get: PROMOTION OF YOUR BUSINESS!!! Not only do you get your company’s name on the back of our race t-shirt, you get your company name listed on our web site, and advertising through our “SeaBag” race bag. You get to put coupons, business cards, flyers, whatever you want to promote your business in the race package that will be distributed to each event participant. The dedicated men and women of our Naval Surface Forces serve their country with pride, often spending extended time at sea away from their families. Current events remind us of the sacrifices that our Sailors and their families make on a daily basis. SOS is a private volunteer organization of military spouses dedicated to supporting our service members and their Navy families. Raising money for the Anchor Scholarship Foundation (www.anchorscholarship.com) is one powerful and effective way in which we partner with the Hampton Roads community to accomplish this goal.
Please find attached an outline of the sponsorship levels for our race. In return for your financial or product sponsorship, we offer you name and product recognition. Our race will be advertised in the Virginian-Pilot, the Flagship, on our website, and throughout the Hampton Roads community. The Surface Officers’ Spouses have donated over $10,000 each year to Anchor Scholarship Foundation. In 2010, the Surface Officers’ Spouses gave $14,000 to help Navy families.

The 2011 1st Annual Anchor Run Race Facts
Event: Our 1st annual race features a 5K run/walk, in addition to individual registration we will feature a 1 mile run/walk, and Kids’ Fun Run.
Date & Time: Sunday April 3rd, 2011 at 9:00 for the 5k Run and Walk
Organizers: The Surface Officers’ Spouses of Norfolk operates as a charitable organization as described in Section 501(c)(3) to raise money through social, cultural, and community service activities in order to contribute funds for charitable organizations which benefit the Navy community.
Participants: Our event will pull from the Hampton Roads Navy community as well as runners and walkers from the civilian community. We hope to have over 500 participants in the inaugural run.
Amenities: All participants receive a “Sea Bag”, which contains a t-shirt and a list of all sponsors and other cool stuff. Sponsors are also encouraged to put in an ad or a coupon good for their business, even pens, pencils, or water bottles or other promotional item if you chose to promote your business that way. Awards will be presented to the overall men and women’s winners, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in all age group categories. We will also recognize the Navy command with the highest participation.
Beneficiaries: The Surface Officers’ Spouses will donate the proceeds of the event to Anchor Scholarship Foundation. Anchor Scholarship Foundation recognizes deserving and gifted children and spouses with high academic and character standards, all facing the unique challenges of Navy dependents.
Advertising: The Surface Officers’ Spouses, in addition to advertising through race applications, flyers and other promotional items throughout the region, maintains its own web site www.cinchouse.org/sosofnorfolk . We are also partnering with the Tidewater Striders and Active.com, which will promote the event throughout the Hampton Roads area.
